A Heartbreaking Loss and an Unexpected Gift
On the morning of November 7, 2022, the Tekell family suffered an unimaginable tragedy. Kelcy Tekell, a devoted daughter and kind-hearted soul, was on her way to work when she stopped to check on the victims of a roadside crash. In a selfless act of compassion, she exited her car to offer help—only to be struck by an oncoming truck, losing her life at the scene.
In the wake of this devastating loss, the High Cotton Relief Fund quietly stepped in to cover the cost of Kelcy’s funeral, lifting a burden from the grieving family during their darkest hours. It's moments like these that remind us why this fund exists—to show love, support, and relief when it’s needed most.
When the Fires Raged, West Texas Stood Together
As wildfires swept across the Texas Panhandle in early 2023—fueled by relentless winds, choking dust, and near-zero visibility—many farmers watched in helpless disbelief as their land, crops, and livelihoods were consumed by flames. The High Lonesome, Double S, and Windmill Fires scorched tens of thousands of acres, forcing evacuations, closing highways, and leaving entire communities without power.
In the aftermath of these devastating fires, the High Cotton Relief Fund stepped in to provide urgent support to affected farmers and ranchers. From replacing lost fencing and feed to helping cover basic needs during recovery, the fund delivered critical aid when it was needed most—reminding the Panhandle that in times of crisis, they’re never alone.
